Clockin’ Out: 5 Travel Destinations to Cash Out Your PTO Days

PTO days are a workplace favorite, and many of us plan strategically on when and where to spend those days. Some spread out their days throughout the year, while others stack them up like dominoes and spend the end of the year in bliss. If you ask me, I prefer the latter. There are several places you can go to kick your feet up and get paid to relax. As we always do, we made a nice list of insta-worthy places to explore and cash out those PTO days. Your adventure awaits!

1. St. Lucia

This place is like Heaven on Earth. I might be saying this because I’m biased, but it’s hard not to be in this case. St. Lucia is an awe-inspiring island with so many vibrant colors and people. It makes you want to reconsider coming back home to the hustle and bustle of the US life. It’s home to deep, winding roads and a rich history of healing, agriculture, and much more. Every summer St. Lucia hosts the Mercury Fest. The festival is massive and reigns in several guests to celebrate the country’s forthcoming wealth and success. If this is not enough to make you want to pack your bags and take off tomorrow, then don’t worry. St. Lucia does not sit alone, as it neighbors many other islands in the Lesser Antilles such as Martinique, St. Kitts, Barbados, and many more scenic views.

2. Bali

Bali has to be one of the most traveled vacation spots to date. Tens across the board. Bali is very dreamy and picturesque such as St. Lucia, yet it harbors a slightly different feel. Bali is located in Indonesia and is known for its emphasis on being connected with nature through the dramatization of forestry and animal life. You don’t have to go far to spot monkeys, exotic birds, and maybe an elephant too. Adventure definitely awaits here with anything from riding elephants to tire swinging over a massive waterfall. If you’re looking for a great place to go off-grid with your significant other, then Bali is the place to be. This perfect getaway spares no expense for romantic and scenic views; from infinity pools to views overlooking the ocean. Consider this beautiful destination to bare yourself as well-traveled with the PTO, and catch a few more passport stamps.

3. Phuket

I have definitely seen this destination pop up on my timeline a time or two, and how can you be upset? Look at those views! Phuket is definitely on my top five destinations in the future. It’s Thailand’s largest island and thrives off of mass tourism. The island has gained so much attention over the years that – believe it or not – over 100,000 visitors have made this place their permanent home. Talk about waking up in paradise! The island is perfect for those who love sand in their toes, as Phuket is home to over 36 beaches alone. This dream destination is completely affordable for solo travelers, couples, or even families. If you are looking to expand your horizons with those PTO days, then this is the place for you.

4. Hungary

I had to drop one of my favorite destinations in here as a shameless plug. Hungary is doused in the richest of culture and history, you wouldn’t want to miss a thing. There is a story behind every building, street name, and bridge. Hungarians spare no expense in making sure the history of the country is preserved in everyday life from clothing to food and much more. Speaking of food… it… is… amazing. Hungary takes pride in serving the freshest food, and they do not play when it comes to three meals a day. One of my favorite luxuries in Hungary is the mineral baths. Observing the architecture of these hundred-year-old buildings is a blessing. But to receive healing and cleansing from hundred-year-old practices and waters is an experience as well. Check out this amazing place soon!

5. Mauritius

And our last stop on the vacation destination train, Mauritius! This island is off the coast of South Africa, just to the East of Madagascar, and will definitely give you the views you’re looking for. The best time to visit is in the late summer and fall months. Mauritius has Dutch, French, and British influence, so the culture is rich and full of history too. The island is home to several watersports, land sports, spas and gym. They offer everything from undersea walking to swimming with dolphins, so no two days are the same. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like heaven to me! If you would like to be catered to whim to whim, then I’d say this is the place for you.

No matter where you go, it’s important that you pick somewhere you will have lasting memories. Whether you travel alone, with your boo, or make family time, keep the memories in mind. There is so much of the world to see and we have to make the most of the beauty here on Earth! You’ve been working hard all year, end it on a good note and fly out to a nice place and find your zen. Catch some sun, flick it up for the gram, and eat some good food. That’s the point of our PTO days, isn’t it?! Put them to good use. And when you finally book that flight, make sure you have some sturdy luggage with you on the way. See you in paradise!
