How to Celebrate Mother’s Day in Quarantine

Mother’s Day 2020 will be very different this year. Although some states have eased their stay-at-home orders, others have extended theirs through the month of May. Despite the circumstances, moms all over deserve to be honored and celebrated. During this pandemic, many mothers have had their boundaries stretched with playing teacher, doctor and chef for their children and spouses. It’s only right that we show them a little extra appreciation this year even if we can’t leave the house.

Gift delivery

Planning a Mother’s Day celebration can be a bit tricky if you’re social distancing. While you may not be able to physically be there to show your mom how much you care, you can always send her a gift. Nothing says I love you like a surprise bouquet of flowers or an edible arrangement. If your mom isn’t into flowers or fruit, then any personalized gift can work. Order dinner from her favorite restaurant or a book she’s been wanting to read. A gift sent through the mail may not seem as personal, but it’s the thought that counts and it follows all social distancing guidelines.

Plan a picnic

This next gift idea is for those who are able to see their mom in person. Plan a picnic in your yard, or an uncrowded local park if possible, with your mom’s favorite snacks. Top it off with a playlist filled with some old school hits that you and your mom can jam out to.  Traditionally, picnics involve homemade food; however, if cooking isn’t your thing, your mom probably already knows and she’ll appreciate you ordering out.  Picnics are usually inexpensive and it is a great way to get outside and spend time with your mom.

At home paint and sip

This one’s for the wine drinking moms! Create your very own paint and sip at home. If you’re naturally crafty, you can draw a template yourself. However, there are plenty of templates online available to print and trace if you’re not as creative. Find a clean, quiet place to set up. Light some candles and put on some music. Don’t forget the wine, paint, brushes and anything else you may need to make your mom feel like you planned this just for her. Not only will your mom appreciate the activity, but you’ll both have a piece of art to remember the day.

Spa day

What woman doesn’t love a little R & R? Navigating Covid-19 is stressful, and with most salons closed your mom is probably dying for a spa day. Luckily, most things needed for a spa day you’ll find in your bathroom! You’ll need nail polish, lotion, skincare products, etc. Treat your mom to her very own at home spa with a manicure, pedicure and makeover. Adjust your activities to you and your mom’s liking and enjoy the day.

Mother’s Day scavenger hunt

This one takes a little bit of time and creativity, but the results are well worth it. Plan a Mother’s Day scavenger hunt by hiding clues around the house. For example, one clue might say “go to the place where we keep our Christmas decorations”, or “your next clue is hidden in your favorite pair of shoes.” You can make the clues as simple or complex as you wish. Cater the clues towards things you know your mom would enjoy. The great thing about the scavenger hunt is that it can be the gift itself, or it can be an activity leading up to one of the previously mentioned ideas.

We know Mother’s Day is limited this year, but with these fun quarantine-style ideas, she’ll still feel the love. To all of the girl boss moms and our very own superheroes, Happy Mother’s Day!
