Who Disney Should Cast Alongside Halle Bailey in ‘The Little Mermaid’

Since casting Halle Bailey as Ariel in Disney’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, the internet has been buzzing with the news and opinions. Star-studded peers such as Ariana Grande, Halle Berry, and Zendaya have taken to their social media pages to give Halle Bailey praises for the groundbreaking new role. So far, we only know of Bailey’s official role in the movie. However, there have also been rumors of Awkwafina (CrazyRichAsians) to play in the role of Scuttle, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula going around as well. Whoever the official cast will be, we are sure Disney will bring on the best. However, as we wait for the official names, Team NC has a few suggestions for The Little Mermaid cast as well.

Disney villains are one of a kind, and The Little Mermaid is one of the top movies on the list of the best villains. They even spark their very own fan base, and Queen Latifah makes an excellent choice for villainous octopus, Ursula. Ursula is responsible for taking Ariel’s voice away and ultimately causing chaos in her life. Queen Latifah has experience with singing roles from playing Motormouth Maybelle in Hairspray and Carlotta in Star.

Prince Eric

Twitter has been blowing up with their suggestions on who should be handsome Prince Eric. From Joe Jonas, Jordan Fisher, to Shawn Mendes, the choices are great.  However, our preference goes to Diego Tinoco from the Netflix show, On My Block. He has the charming smile and debonair glow just like the animated version of Prince Eric.

Vanessa is the human version of Ursula in disguise. She used Ariel’s voice to take Prince Eric away and who can play a better version than Elizabeth Gillies. She looks identical to the character and is a fantastic actress and Broadway singer. You may know her as Fallon Carrington from Dynasty, or Jade from Victorious. Elizabeth has just the amount of spunk and style to pull off this character.

Flotsam and Jetsam

If Disney goes for a comedic relief for Flotsam and Jetsam, then Adam Sandler and Eddie Murphy are the ones to do it. Both comedians have a slew of movies under their belt, including animated films. They can definitely nail the comedic duo role very well.

Caleb McLaughlin from Stranger Things would make a perfect Sebastian. He has singing and acting experience from playing Young Simba of The Lion King on Broadway. With his endearing charisma and excellent acting and singing skills, this makes him an ideal actor for the role.

Flounder is one of the movie’s loveable characters. He is Ariel’s best friend and who better to play the role than Jordan Fisher. He is charismatic, a great singer and very versatile, who has also been on Broadway. What a great actor to bring out the joy of the characters. Having him in this role could do wonders for his career.

Josh Gad already has a few Disney characters roles under his belt in his acting career. He was the voice actor of Olaf in Frozen, and played in the role as LeFou in the recent Beauty and the Beast live-action remake. He has definitely earned his stripes with Disney and would be great as the voice of another loveable character like Scuttle.

King Triton

Many fans of The Little Mermaid have suggested that Idris Elba should be cast as the King of the Sea. King Triton is Ariel’s father and we are all here for him getting the role to act alongside Halle Bailey. Idris has a deep affirming voice and a commanding presence as seen and heard in his prominent role of Heimdall in the movie, Thor. Not to mention, how he already has the strong and sculpted look that will be needed for the underwater position.
